Painting closet doors and a Fishing Trip

We've been passing the sickies back and forth in our house recently and we're finally getting better. How do I know? We've got cabin fever... GET ME OUT OF THE HOUSE!
I'm getting stir crazy sitting around thinking of all the projects around the house that needs to be done and try keeping an active 2 year old occupied in the house for long periods of time... not an easy task.

So we got out of the house. I started painting the doors in the house that are stil that awful base flat paint since we've moved in. No pictures because you really have to see it in person and feel the difference. Didnt change the paint color but atleast now its a semi gloss, amazing what a little sheen can do!

Then we walked down to the harbor and did a little fishing.

Here's the little guy's first fish that daddy helped him catch.

And the one that mama helped him catch.
(My fish is bigger than daddy's, I just was in no shape to be in the pix)

We had a nice time and mama came home a little early to make baked spaghetti casserole.mmmm... all that fishing made me hungry.

Sometimes even when you're sick, you have to get out of the house. I think the sun did us some good. And now I've got the painting bug, gonna be taking down all the doors and paint them this week, we'll thats my plan, who knows if it will happen.
2 down and 4 more to go!

Hoo are you #35....

NightOwlCrafting

Yes! I'm a day late, just possably a dollar short as well, but don't hold it against me!
Here are this week's questions, wont you play along as well??

1. Do you pay your bills online or through snail mail?
Both, I pay credit cards online but my utilities I do the old fashioned way of snail mail. Most places here are kinda slow on the technology and I dont even know if our water department does that? Hmmm I should check...

2. How many email accounts do you have?
Uhhhh... call me obsessive.... or maybe its just cause I have ADD... I don't even check all of them regularly because I have too much, I have... wait let me count them... 6

3. Do you use XM/Sirius, radio, ipod, CD, or etc.. in your vehicle?
Ok, laugh at me now.. I dont own an ipod, I dont have a smart phone... Im soooo tech-illerate (is that a word) I stopped burning my own cd's after the whole limewire, stealilng copyrighted music thing happend a few years ago. I listen to the radio and get very frustrated with the lack of choices we have here.

4.  What shows are sparking your interest on TV right now?
Hmmm, well we have our usual line up of shows: NCIS, Mike and Molly, Greys, Private Practice, Two and a Half men (btw who else is bummed the show is now cxled?!) How I met your mother, Modern Family, Cougartown, anything DIY, HGTV, Foodnetwork and Travel, totally bummed theres no more Hills and The City (that was my guilty pleasure)... recently weve been watching Glee and that new show Mad Love.

5. Name 3 things that you think of when you hear the word "GREEN"!
I think of recycling, how I want my kitchen to look (I've been obsessing over whether to do it in red or green) and veggies!

Laundry Saturday

Every Saturday is Laundry day.
We put a load in the washer in the morning so that we can make the best use of daylight hours.
We dont have a dryer, its a choice that we made.
Its saves energy and hey what better power than the power of our sun, especially since we live in Hawaii!

Yes we are left with crunchy clothes, but I wouldnt mind my clothes being a little softer.
I like my towels crunchy, yup I'm weird like that. I just hate the feeling of fabric softner on my towels, when I wipe myself off, it feels like I'm not getting dry. Come on you know what I mean right?

Purex has this new product called Complete Crystals. They're a crystal fabric softner that is supposed to last longer and smell fresher for longer than traditional liquid fabric softners.

I checked them out {here}and they say that liquid softners are oil based thats why they dont absorb.
Well I must try this out and test it out for myself.
Anyone else want to take the challenge with me?

Lets all take the challenge... I'll let you know how its goes.

polka dot garland

Gotta love my cricut.
I needed something different for my son's bday party, something other than streamers.
I saw Diane from home sweet homemade make tons of different paper garlands and I just loved them.
I went to my cricut and cut out a ton of different colored circles.
Then I sewed them together... super simple.

And there you go! Paper garland.

Honestly the easiest thing I ever sewed, or even made for that matter!

Just wait till I show you pictures of it hanging at the party.

Magnetic Pantry Door

I have a thing about messy refridgerator doors.
I like to collect pix and hang them on our refridge but I dont like the front of our fridge to be covered in stuff. It feels messy to me, so I usually put it on the side of the fridge. The problem is we have such a tiny area showing that it really does get all cluttered with stuff.

I saw this project highlighted on Someday Crafts.
I headed over to Budget Wise Home to check out how she made a magnetic wall. Yes you heard me a magnetic wall!! How cool is that.
Her project is way cooler than mine but I just didnt have the wall space for what she did.
I decided to make my pantry door magnetic. We took the door down and brought it outside to paint.

A coat of paint was WAY over due. When we moved in (ahem 3 years ago) everything was painted in a flat like base coat so we needed to paint pretty much everything.
We slowly made our way throughout the house and bathrooms, kitchen and doors are all still on the list of to dos.
Our doors are all stained and blah looking from just being painted the flat base so this project was kind of a kill two birds with one stone kind of a deal for me.

Did you even know these products existed!? I knew they made chalkboard paint but dry erase? glow in the dark? magnetic?? Oh my goodness what are they gonna think of next!?
I picked up 1 qt of the magnetic primer (it was about $23.00)

This project was messy, it recommended using a roller and I'm a rebel so I used a brush. I should have listened. The paint is thick and the magnetic magic works best when the paint is flat. Well I had bumps, it still works, but Im left with bumps.

Lucky me I picked a very hot sunny day so the paint dried very fast and I could easily do 4 or 5 coats on the door in just half  day.  But thats just the primer, I had to go back over it with my actual paint color which took probably 2 or 3 days because by the time I came home from work I could only do one coat before evening.

And then for the final product...

Tada! A door that is magnetic, imagine that!
Its super cool. Its not as magnetic as a fridge door but it totally works! Look at all the magnets I have on there! I have school pix of the neices and nephews, party invites, reminders all kinds of stuff.
And now the side of my fridge is clean and uncluttered!

I'm linking to the parties {HERE} please go check them out!

4M's

I know I'm a bit late to the party but better late than never right?

Every week, I dont plan my song choices I just kind of feel it and see what I can come up with... this is what I was feeling for today, the last day of the love month!

I think this song is so cute, not to mention it's filmed on the island where I live.

You guys know where the party's at... come on over...
