A quick fix sunday.....

We had a super busy weekend! My hubby's family had their family reunion and it seemed like the weekend just flew by with not enough time!

Of course I had to get a little bit of cleaning and organizing on my Sunday morning.
WE NEED STORAGE!
Why is it that it seems like we just dont have enough? We dont have a ton of stuff.
Well today I tackled the spare bathroom. Its shared between my son, my dad and our guests so we try to keep it clean and simple. Our medicine cabinet is tiny and it's already full of pain relievers, cold medicine, first aid supplies, etc. and under the sink cabinets are filled with cleaning supplies and extra soap and toilet paper.
So where oh were can I fit more storage into my small bathroom... oh here on the wall!

(look can you see the edge of my mirror? Its on the to-do list to frame it out)

That is about the only free space in the bathroom besides behind the door and lets be honest, behind the door is wasted space, you just cant do anything with it!

Yes.... I bought prefab!

(sorry for the sideways pix, dont know why it keeps doing that)

Ok, so Im not as crafty, diy, handy as everyone out there so YES I bought a prefab cabinet. I'm just not ready to jump into a total diy project just yet! I'm working on it and have spare lumber and a plan, I promise!
So the cabinet came with these UGLY plastic knobs. (yea yea thats what I get for buying prefab)

BUT.... just so happend I just got in the mail these cute fleu de lis knobs I bought on ebay.

I changed the knobs I had on my hallway closets to these and took those to replace those plastic uglies.

Before & After

We have those round knobs all over the house, seriouslly EVERYWHERE. Every single cabinet in the bathrooms and kitchen. The developer must have gotten a huge quantity discount because every house in our neighborhood has them everywhere.

My son helping, of course... and then checking his work...

Looks like hes happy with it!

Ok so here it is, just a quick 10 min project! Ok fine I admit it, I got distracted with the knob situation and started switching knobs all over the place so what started out as a 10 min project ended up almost a half hour project. And we finally hung it up on the wall....

Yea, i fussed with it what seemed like forever. Moving things here and there.
It looks to white and stark and plain.

I figured just let it go for now and leave it practical. Things will eventually find its way on there. But for now Im just glad to have more storage and in only a half hour! YAY!!!

My son is ready to go for more ....

(he actually saw me taking pix of the wall and came up and starting say cheese! gosh how time flies by cant believe my baby is a year and a half)

Buffet re-do into a dresser.......FINALLY!!!

So several months ago I posted about a buffet I bought from Craigslist here.
I have been dying to finish this project and after what seems like eternity its finally DONE!

Here's the before:

What took forever, besides finding time to work on it, was the buffet had one missing piece from the drawer pull. I searched and searched for a matching replacement and just couldnt find one. I didnt want to replace all of them because I thought the orignal ones were so beautiful. I finally ended up with something I liked but didnt really match so I moved the mismatched ones to the drawers on the sides.

Here are the ones that came with the buffet. I had taken the before, during and after pix when I painted them, but I cant find it? Did I upload them? Did I delete them from my camera? Oh well Im too ansty to post this Im not looking. So Here are the drawer pulls after I cleaned them with acid and spray painted them black. Now that they're on, I think I want to paint them brushed nickel.

This is the pair I picked out for the two outside drawers. Heavy duty cast iron and puuurdy. Doesnt match but I'll see how long I can block out my OCD.
So on to my hard work. I took appart the buffet, removed the hardware and glued all the loose pieces.

Sanded it down, which wasnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be.

My son even jumped right in there and helped. Well atleast he thought he was helping with that Snap On water gun.

Then came the primer, and I have to agree with every blogger out there that recommends Killz, it was so easy to work with.
Then came the white paint.... EEEEKKK!!! I know I know it was such a beautiful piece and the wood was gorgeous, but it just wouldnt go in my bedroom with my dark brown walls. Dont worry its just paint, it comes off!

Then I took to my mentor's tutorial (Thanks Brooke from All Things Thrifty)
She has great tips on painting furniture and glazing, some amazing makeovers come out of her garage! And BTW, its her birthday this Friday, go check her out and send her some Bday wishes.

I brushed on a black stain because our home depot didnt have glazing and it worked just fine for my pix frame redo. I love the detials on this and really wanted that part to stand out. After just a moment I wiped it off and look how the detail pops out now:

I glazed the entire buffet, put the hardware back on and moved it into my bedroom where it is now my dresser. So ok, ok, enough with the talking her it is. Please pardon the pix, they were taken at like 11pm last night and I didnt have my good camera. Lighting is pretty bad but oh well... here it is:

Now that its in my room and Im using it, I think I will repaint the drawer pulls a brushed nickel, unless anyone of you have a better idea???

Im so happy to FINALLY have this piece in my room. I should have posted pix of the before, I had piles of stuff just leaning against the wall, ugh so much nicer now. What do you think?
