Shower Caddy

Have you ever given much thought to your shower caddy? It’s always been a must in my shower and it’s always bothered me. Not to the point where it nags at my brain and I obsess over it, but the design just never seemed right to me.

Here are my thoughts:

First of all, I enjoy one of those shower heads, you know the handheld ones and I like mine extra long too so you can bathe a baby in the tub as well. But the tube thingie (very technical word there) that attaches to he head and the wall, always gets in the way when you have a shower caddy!

Secondly that little bit of post-drip (another really technical term) that happens when you turn the shower off always gets my soap all wet and mushy over time and it drips soap residue down the side of my shower wall. Makes me nuts!

What is a girl to do?!

Im not into the floor to ceiling type of caddy like this one for some reason, it doesn’t seem sturdy enough and I’d be the first to stub my toe on it and make it come crashing down.

Then of course the fab Allison over at the House of Hepworths pinned this…

{House of Hepworths Pinterst}

You guys have to click it to see!! I’m not giving it away!

I saw it and was like, DUH!

Why wouldn’t it work?

Genius!

So, following her advise, now I have this….

shower caddy1a

I don’t bang my arms against my shower caddy when I shampoo my hair, my soap doesn’t get all mushy, I don’t have soapy runny stains down the shower and on my shower faucet and I can finally look at getting one of those shower heads.

We totally used that tip and look, here is our shower caddy, still close and convenient, just across the shower on the other wall!

shower caddy2a

You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to find a darn hook!

Kmart, none… Walmart… none, Home Depot… not the right size either!

Finally found just the right one at Ace Hardware.

shower caddy4a

I can’t believe what an easy fix it was. And it was rejuvenating for me since its been a while since I did any kind of project.

shower caddy3a

Its been about a week since we moved the caddy to the opposite wall of the shower and I really do like it, sometimes it’s the easiest fix that makes the biggest difference.

Thanks guys for sticking around… things are changing around here and I’ve got a few posts getting ready to go…. Big Announcement coming up as well!

Summer Emergency kit for the car

I am sooo misbehaving! Look at what I'm having for breakfast...

Mango Lilikoi Pie and oh so delish!
Sandy from The Right Slice does a MEAN pie!
If you wanna get a fix you can check it out {here}

Anyway... back on the subject.
I try to plan... it hardly ever works out in my favor....
I hate being stuck somewhere and not have something or wishing I did.
Either that or I accumulate things in my car each trip out somewhere thinking I'll need this or that for my son and next thing you know my car is full of extra toys, clothes just a mess!

I finally decided to pick up a container from wallmart.
I put in a spare towel.

Extra change of clothes for warm, cold and swimming.
(as you can see I tried to color coordinate them so I can change it up if need be)

Some toys and pens and notepad for drawing, the lil guy loves to draw.

And then I put it in the back of my car.
No more oops I forgot this or that!
I also put in some sun screen and bug spray as well.

Recipe Mess

I love to cook. And I guess my family and friends know this.
I seem to have collected a lot of cookbooks and receipes over the years.
I just stash them in that tiny cabinet over my micro since its so small I never know what to put up there.
And its a MESS....
(this is after I took most of my stuff out)

I organized them by type of cookbook.

Just check out this mess!!! Thats all the stuff I print out on the internet and cut out of magazines and newspapers. (if you look closely you'll even see a recipe scribbled on a recept for car parts!)

Toni's over at A bowl full of lemons is awsome when it comes to cleaning and organizing. I took her 21 day challenge back in January. I didnt do all 21 days but it got me started and on a good path to getting organized and clean!

She did a post on creating a recepie binder which I PROMISED myself I will do! I just have to! No excuses. (as I write this post... this pile is STILL on my kitchen counter)

I did put the rest of my cookbooks back in the cabinet all nice and neat.
Lets see how long it lasts.

What mess are you going to tackle?

Day #9 -Toy Organization and Up coming Linky Party .... and...... (GIVEAWAY)

This was a busy weekend I must say.

One of the projects I tackled this weekend was putting my son's toys into plastic containers.
Yes I know Im going backwards.... way back but I really have been meaning to get it done.

I do appologize that I dont have before pictures. I had to 'borrow' a memory card from an old camera that only had enough memory for 5 pix at a time.
Can you even remember that when cards had so little storage, wow.

Anyway, we had space under our media shelf that we would just throw his toys in and it drove me insane. I picked up these plastic containers from kmart but they were just a tad bit too tall.

We tried moving the shelf up higher but the next knotch was just too high, this is were that totally awsome christmas present comes in that I got my hubby cause Im the best wife in the world.. hehehe

Yup, he thinks Im the greatest :-)
So we used this bad boy to make our own holes for the shelf bracket and voila!
Enough room to put the plastic containers.

But wait!
I still cant stand it. So stay tunned for and update when I cover them with fabric, if I can ever make up my mind what print I want.

Also...
I had some time to think about the little things that we sometimes forget to be thankful for.
Tomorrow I will be hosting a "THANKFUL FOR" linky party.
Please spread the word and come and join me to share about the simple things that you are thankful for.

AND...
One more thing... Im thankful for all of you for sticking around when I go MIA and for my random ramblings so, I'll also be announcing a CSN GIVEAWAY tomorrow as well.
Very exciting!!
Who doesnt love CSN Stores and their thousands of products!!!
I could totally use a laptop messenger bag to tote around my laptop and cricut!!! hehehehe

Thanks ya'll and see you then. Dont forget to make your list of things you are thankful for!

Day # 14 Under the Bathroom Sink

I'm still making my attempts to keep up with the challenge. I'm getting there slowly but surely.
Day #14 was under the bathroom sink, again an area I hardly ever think of. I thought mine was neat but once I really got under there... nope it wasnt.

So I took everything out and vacuumed it up and wiped it down.

I picked up some $1.50 plastic bins up from Kmart. Not the color I want but for $1.50 it was gonna go under the sink so I was ok with it.
I put all my extra hand soap and shampoo my hubby's shaving cream and all of a sudden I realized several things.

(note: the plastic bag will be removed once I get more storage containers - see below)

1. I need to buy toilet paper I'm running low
2. While Im there I need soap as well, that one bar looks really lonely
3. I have a drawer FULL of feminine products that I could put under here now that I've got so much room

4. I could totally free up this entire drawer if I found one of these great containers with drawers in them.

5. I have waaaayy too much half used lotions. I need to promise myself that I will not buy any more lotion untill I use all this up. (BTW, this was just what was under my sink, it doesnt include what I have in my closet or the spare bathroom)

I also really like this idea that Toni did over at A bowl full of lemons

Photo courtesy of A bowl full of lemons

I don's use a dryer but this is a great idea to put my flat iron.
I love it.... or I guess I could put it in the drawer once all my lady things gets moved...

Day # 13 The Medicine Cabinet

Ok so I missed a few day but on day #13 I tackled the medicine cabinet.
Who ever thinks of organizing the medicine cabinet? I know I never did and thankgoodness for this challenge!

Here it is in all it's glory.
I got these trays a week or so ago with the intention to clean and organize my junk drawer (day#1)

I took everything out and cleaned the shelves and actually went through all my medications.
Wow good thing I did, I had a TON of expired OTC medications YIKES!!
Remember the Airborne craze? Yea I was sucked in and still had some left.
Doesnt look like its still good, what do you think?

Eww
I put everything back all neat and organized and left the items we use everyday on the bottom shelf.

Wow it looks totally cleaner and not so cluttered.
Guess it goes to show that you dont ignore those spots you dont think about often.

like what you see? please vote for me...

Day # 6 Getting Organized Challenge - Dresser Drawers

I'm a little behind on my days but here's day number 6 - dresser drawers.

So have that buffet table I turned into a dresser I told you all about it {here}
Since the holidays I've been piling crap on top of it and I'm so embarrassed to show you all this picture but here it is

And another view... horrible isnt it...

So as part of the challenge I took everything off and then cleaned it. With all that crap on it, I don't know how it got so dusty.

Ok a new start, what to do...
Well first I just have to say how much I LOVE those drawers made for utinsils, look how perfect they are for the "unmentionables" drawer

Please pardon my hubs underwear and dont tell him I put this picture up either.
My friend got me this great picture cause she knew I would love the frame. I plan on replacing the picture with either a mirror or a family pix and hanging it on the wall.

So clean I dont even recognize my own room!
Feels great to be cleaned and uncluttered. After we finished this we started on the closet and you should see the donation pile grow!!

Day #5 Getting Organized Challenge - Under the Kitchen Sink

A Bowl Full of Lemon's has started a 21 day challenge to get yourself organized.
How perfect is this? Just what I need to start of my goals for my new year.
It's already day #5 but Im game to jump right in and join everyone in the organizing fun.

Day #5 is under the kitchen sink. I never thought much about under my sink, I always thought it was... eh.. ok.

Its not overflowing and its not horrendous but once I took everything out I realized all the crap I had under there.

WOW, now that it was all clean and empty I really wanted to put some pretty contact paper and maybe paint it up a bit, but NO this is just to get cleaned and organized and I promised myself to make it FREE.
I really would have loved some new baskets or those racks you hang on the inside of the doors, maybe another day. Come to think of it, I should put that on my list of to dos. That way I can put all my plastic wrap, foil and ziplock bags there and I can free up a cabinet drawer for something else.

So after I gave it a quick vacuum and wiped it down, I used some plastic containers that I already had on hand to organize my cleaning supplies

Seriouslly didnt know I had that many opened and half used packages of sponges. I don't think I'll be buying sponges any time soon.

Ok so I had an almost empty soap dispenser and an almost empty bottle of soap, time to filler up and throw out the huge bottle.

Kmart had those grey caddies on sale for 99 cents. I bought some thinking I could put togther a great gift one day, well today it's my gift.
I also noticed cleaning up a bit I had a lot of extra room under there.

I threw out a bunch of those empty cans we use to dump oil in so we don't dump it down the drain and I had tons of room. I put my kitchen trash bags under there and there was still room! So I put some of my extra boxes of ziplock bags and plastic wrap.

Not wanting to get too carried away and fill up my cabinet with junk again,I stopped there. Which was good enough for me to clear out enough room in my pantry to store my new glass caraffe. yay!
