I have a thing about messy refridgerator doors.
I like to collect pix and hang them on our refridge but I dont like the front of our fridge to be covered in stuff. It feels messy to me, so I usually put it on the side of the fridge. The problem is we have such a tiny area showing that it really does get all cluttered with stuff.
I saw this project highlighted on Someday Crafts.
I headed over to Budget Wise Home to check out how she made a magnetic wall. Yes you heard me a magnetic wall!! How cool is that.
Her project is way cooler than mine but I just didnt have the wall space for what she did.
I decided to make my pantry door magnetic. We took the door down and brought it outside to paint.
A coat of paint was WAY over due. When we moved in (ahem 3 years ago) everything was painted in a flat like base coat so we needed to paint pretty much everything.
We slowly made our way throughout the house and bathrooms, kitchen and doors are all still on the list of to dos.
Our doors are all stained and blah looking from just being painted the flat base so this project was kind of a kill two birds with one stone kind of a deal for me.
Did you even know these products existed!? I knew they made chalkboard paint but dry erase? glow in the dark? magnetic?? Oh my goodness what are they gonna think of next!?
I picked up 1 qt of the magnetic primer (it was about $23.00)
This project was messy, it recommended using a roller and I'm a rebel so I used a brush. I should have listened. The paint is thick and the magnetic magic works best when the paint is flat. Well I had bumps, it still works, but Im left with bumps.
Lucky me I picked a very hot sunny day so the paint dried very fast and I could easily do 4 or 5 coats on the door in just half day. But thats just the primer, I had to go back over it with my actual paint color which took probably 2 or 3 days because by the time I came home from work I could only do one coat before evening.
And then for the final product...
Tada! A door that is magnetic, imagine that!
Its super cool. Its not as magnetic as a fridge door but it totally works! Look at all the magnets I have on there! I have school pix of the neices and nephews, party invites, reminders all kinds of stuff.
And now the side of my fridge is clean and uncluttered!
I'm linking to the parties {HERE} please go check them out!

Very nice. It looks great!
Wow...I didn't know about dry erase and magnetic paint either!
We had a large metal panel above our filter at our old apartment, and it was such a great place to post pictures. Only thing I miss about that place (apart from some people who lived there).
Very cool! That is a fabulous idea! I don't like my fridge to be all cluttered either. Thanks for linking up!
It looks great! I wanted to replace my pantry door with something with glass, but I'm thinking a magnetic or dry erase door might be much more useful. I didn't know Rustoleum had come out with the dry erase paint, I'll have to check for it the next time I'm at Home Depot.
That is so cool! I saw that at the home store the other day but couldn't think of anywhere to try it! This would be perfect! Great solution.
I'm filing this away for future use. I'm trying to figure out where I could justify doing this in my house. :)
That's awesome. I never would have thought of that. Love how the house is coming along.
